It’s been a while since I posted a Work in Progress update. I’ve slowed down on the Urban Fantasy novel as I struggle to hit the 60% mark. Not because I don’t like the project or I’m not sure where to go with it, I’m still on track to complete it – just not as fast as I’d hoped.

See, I got distracted. I finished my steampunk story and got it edited down to about 8k words. It’s sitting in an editor’s inbox right now waiting to be accepted and published and adored by the world. I had a brief thought of turning it into a series of stories but as I started tinkering with that, I thought about extending the story and making it a true novel rather than an anthology of shorts. I messed with the main concept of the novel, but nothing came together.

Until last week.

Last week I had my Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup moment – “I love THIS concept. And I dig THAT idea. What would happen if I smoosh the two together?” I think they’ll taste great!

I’m not trying to be coy by not revealing what the mash up is, I just want to get the bird flying before I officially shout “Duck Season!” and everyone tries to argue it’s rabbit season.

What does that even mean? How many metaphors have I used so far? What’s my quota for the day?
