I know it’s Halloween night. Kids are out trick or treating, there’s parties and such, but I’ve got several hours to myself and I’ve secreted myself away to take advantage of it by writing.
I know it’s rather anti-social, but I take my time when I can get it. Our neighborhood’s beggar’s night was on Thursday, so I’m not missing out on his fun or anything – he’s having a Halloween playdate with his friend tonight.

Looking at the blog, I haven’t posted in two weeks. No excuse – laziness mostly. A little productivity as well, so there’s the good news.
I realized that since I haven’t posted in two weeks, I haven’t given a Work in Progress Wednesday update in that long as well. Let’s call this my WIP Wednesday – Holiday Edition.
For once, the reason I haven’t given an update isn’t because I don’t have progress to report, I actually hit a big milestone.

50%! I passed the halfway mark on the book! It as great. Took forever to get the time to edge past the forty-nine percent mark, but once I did, it went very well. The scenes I was working on flowed well and just spilled out onto the page. I found a number of important story elements that needed attention and they came out in happy little blocks over the last few weeks. Couldn’t be happier.
I’m not working on the novel tonight, there’s a short story that keeps waving it’s arms at me and yelling “Look at me! Here I am!” So, I’ve been working on it. I’m 5000 words into it (I know I’ll have to trim it later) and I’m really excited about it. I’ll knock it down within the next couple of weeks, hopefully alternating between it and the book.

43375 / 85000 words. 51% done!

I’d really love to finish the book by the end of the year. I mean, REALLY love to get that first draft out. We’ll see. It could happen.

I found the cool pumpkin photo here.
